Good to see NEF analysis referenced in this John Harris piece - rising claims for disability benefits need to be understood as an intersection of higher rates of both disability & financial insecurity among disabled people. Cuts will exacerbate both theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Starmer's U-turn, then. Imagine 2 disabled ppl with similar PIP scores. One receives PIP, the other is about to apply. The first is now spared to save the PM. The other will still be immiserated. And note: there are more of the latter (430,000 by 2030) than the former (370,000)

From Patrick Maguire's Times col, in which a 'cabinet source' calls Labour MPs who rebelled 'stupid pricks' & a Downing St insider says they're 'deeply unserious' people. Basic legal rights for children with Special Needs & (oh, look) Disabilities is indeed the likely next fight

Jim Callaghan & Denis Healey would have had their hands full putting out statements about the outbursts of punk rockers c.1976-7. But, you know, they weren't knobheads

Liz Kendall just confirmed in the HoC that existing claimants requesting a reassessment due to worsening conditions after Nov 2026 will be subject to the 4 point minimum criteria. So much for all existing claimants being protected. #TakingThePip

Stephen Timms seems to be telling Victoria Derbyshire tonight that he expects the money lost to people in cuts to their PIP, to be made up for with earned income. He seems to totally disregard the fact that many people who receive PIP work already. #TakingThePIP

Whatever people’s views about the concessions, surely everyone can see the process here is ALL wrong? Third Reading in eight days? A timetable like that diminishes the role of MPs in getting this legislation right, shuts out disabled people and puts too many at risk.
