Congratulations to Jonathan Peters, head of our Dept. of Journalism, on being named to the international OSCE-ODIHR Panel of Experts on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association. Peters serves a dual appointment with UGA School of Law. t.uga.edu/8Jm

We're thrilled that RonNell Andersen Jones Utah Law & Sonja R. West UGA School of Law are joining us as visiting senior research scholars. Their project will explore how law & policy can better protect journalism & core press functions in the U.S. More here: knightcolumbia.org/content/ronnel…

I wrote in Sept for VANITY FAIR that the Dominion cases weren't layups (no libel action is), but I concluded: "If I got drafted into them, I’d much rather have Dominion’s arguments." bit.ly/3LBGFBx That's even more true today. This is a disastrous decision for Fox.

I wrote about a libel lawsuit by '64 GOP candidate Barry Goldwater, which Jonathan Peters called "the rare case in which the plaintiff was able to prove that the statements at issue were made with knowledge of their falsity." Eric Schultz washingtonpost.com/history/2023/0…
