Your dashboards are lying. Your attribution models are broken. And if AI doesn’t remember your brand, you don’t exist. Welcome to the latent web. Here's how to survive. jonoalderson.com/conjecture/eve…

Jono Alderson That’s a strong piece of work. And it reminds me of something that I’ve always thought: SEO being a holistic overview. Don’t obsess over if a link is follow or no follow, it’s a link surrounded by context. It’s a collection of small signals and mentions. Arrows pointing the way.

Using the terminal is essentially just hitting the up key until you find the last time you did a similar task to what you're trying to do now.

stop planning. just stop. there is literally no fucking point. my business plan? make money. i will simply do the thing that has the highest future probability that will make money. i won't sit there and think about it all day and pat myself on the back for thinking so hard

SEO testing is a cover-up. Teams use it to dodge decisions. Meanwhile, sites stay broken. SEO is about bold moves and shipping fixes. Stop stalling. Start shipping. Don't be smart, be brave. jonoalderson.com/conjecture/sto…

After yesterday’s Cloudflare and Fastly’s AI crawl blocking announcements, I have been having thoughts. Thoughts about why this is even needed, why this crawling problem exists. And while I don’t think this solves it all, we have to acknowledge the first step: 🧵

Marketing isn’t media buying. It isn’t CPA dashboards and ROAS targets. That’s advertising. Marketing is brand, product, story, strategy. When we conflate the two, we forget how to build anything that lasts. I wrote about it here šŸ‘‰ jonoalderson.com/misc/performan…

I love that Cloudflare introduced "Pay per crawl", but Google didn't provide a specific crawler/user-agent FOR THIS EXACT REASON. By lumping in with Search overall, you can't specifically block your content from showing in AIOs, AI Mode, etc. Will be interesting to follow. :)

Your competitors have your playbook. You have theirs. Everyone's the same. Everyone's playing it safe. Now AI is learning from the average. And average is easy to ignore. I wrote about the sea of sameness we're all drowning in, and how to stand out. jonoalderson.com/conjecture/adr…

Good writing is not collaborative. This is why most corporate writing sucks. Suggested edits grind the words into characterless Soylent sludge until no one could possibly object. Also, nothing was said.

New in Chrome DevTools: Debug complex CSS values more easily! šŸŽ‰ The Elements > Styles tab now shows a tooltip on hover with: 1. A step-by-step evaluation of complex CSS calculations to trace values back to their origin! 2. The full definition chain of CSS variables!

It's not enough to have the best content, or product, or pricing. You have to convince the systems that you're a good fit for a given search. ...When everyone else is trying to prove that they're a good fit, too. And they're not playing fair. Welcome to the hostile corpus.
