the best conversations i've had about "ai risk" have been with integrity people from social media companies, they have the most experience with having complex systems behave in unintended ways and also deal with internal pressures eg. incentives of other teams to get metrics up

With the OpenAI clownshow, there's been renewed media attention on the xrisk/"AI safety" nonsense. Personally, I've had a fresh wave of reporters asking me naive questions (+ some contacts from old hands who know how to handle ultra-rich man-children with god complexes). 🧵1/

OpenAI's Sora is out! Creating video from text. Similar models from other tech companies will likely follow. There are COOL technical things and NOT COOL social things to know about. A super quick 🧵. 1/

A course on Knowledge Graphs is nothing new, but a course on Knowledge Graphs from this set of teachers is an interesting signal. GenAI is rapidly becoming the best motivation for symbolic AI in a long time!

Misinformation detection based on the analysis of deceptive language only has always been hard, but still much progress was done with the right strategies dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.114…. Looking forward to explore if such strategies also work with content generated by LLMs, not humans

In the end, the right mix between content-based and evidence analysis is necessary, as we also pointed out here link.springer.com/chapter/10.100…

🚀 In Large Language Models (LLMs), "knowledge cutoff" refers to the last date for which training data was collected. This is crucial for fields like journalism, legal, finance, and corporate intelligence, where outdated info can have serious consequences. 📅🧠

Join Konstantin Todorov, Madalina Croitoru, Achim Rettinger, and me at #BeyondTheCutoff! 🗓️🛠️ We’ll discuss LLM limitations & solutions at the 1st International Workshop on Computational Methods Beyond Training Data.

Reverse-engineering LLM training data composition through BPE tokenization. Cool spin and interesting observations. Among other results, good to see how new SotA LLMs seem to pay so much more attention to multilingualism!
