Still shaking slightly from the dress rehearsal of English Touring Opera's new production of The Rape of Lucretia. Full of subtlety, great performances, stunning to look at. The final 10 minutes will stay with me.

Thora Hird's performance in Alan Bennett's Talking Heads is always singled out, and quite right too. But Patricia Routledge's performance as Irene Ruddock in A Lady of Letters breaks your heart. I've never forgotten this scene. Patricia was an incredible dramatic actress.

The show itself wasn't a success, so it's not well-remembered that Patricia Routledge not only won the Tony for this, but got a standing ovation. In the middle of the show. From the audience AND THE ORCHESTRA youtu.be/SOzkqKSGauI?si… . #patriciaroutledge #musical #actress

Diane Keaton, so relatable and enjoyable that it was easy to underestimate how audacious she was an actress. She could be a searing dramatic actress (Looking for Mr. Goodbar, etc) and you were always awed by her off-kilter yet steely sense of self. You could not make her up.

This is a compelling argument but I have it on good authority (Nazi account based in India) that if you leave the house in London you will get chopped up with a machete
