Had a chance to install OpenOBS sensors (thanks to @TedLanghorst) in the macro-tidal marshes of the Gulf of Morbihan, France with the help of UBS_universite scientists. Been a flash of a few days getting to know fellow coastal scientists #NSFASI and reading new environments

This past week and a half we’ve familiarized ourselves with techniques big and small from long-wave radar canopy mapping by Franz J Meyer to sediment microscopy with Dr. Erwan Gensac. So much potential it’s dizzying! #NSFASI #SAR #Sedimentology

Curious about research prior NC Sea Grant / Albemarle-Pamlico NEP fellows have done? All fellowship reports are available on the #APNEP website: bit.ly/ApnepSeaGrantF…. We'd like to highlight Joshua Himmelstein's work in #coastal #wetlands: "Mucking in the #Marshes" youtu.be/jY8y_vLnk3k?si…

A compelling talk by Mark Ciesielski at #CERF2023 who characterized the molecular signatures of Oyster mortality in North Carolina’s estuarine waters. Potential for nipping die-off in the bud with his workflows!

The Coastal Ecogeomorphology Lab Virginia Institute of Marine Science, William & Mary, is seeking a fully funded PhD student to investigate the ecological and geomorphic impacts of sea level rise on coastal landscapes in collaboration with USGS Woods Hole. [email protected] for details.

Using imagery classifiers trained on ground-truthed data collected by the Kuikoru people, we reveal that ~4% of the Amazonian Xingu Territory is Terra Preta - dark earth enriched in carbon (and artifacts) by past human activity. nature.com/articles/s4189… The Perron Group at MIT UNC Dept of Earth, Marine & Environmental Sciences

Good morning DC and happy first day of #AGU24! AGU (American Geophysical Union) We're starting the week off with three oral presentations and one eLightning session!

Barrier islands don’t just get pushed landward—sometimes, they get erased seaward. If we want to forecast barrier island futures, we may need to treat overwash and outwash as fundamentally different beasts. New publication is out in JGR Earth Surface - agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20…
