The times we live in. How will Beijing react? Publicly, my wager is they'll object and condemn this move. Privately, I think there will be some corks popped.

Per USTR, Vietnam imports $13.1 billion (with a b) worth of goods from the U.S., not "twelve-and-a-half million". Still makes for a large goods trade deficit, but worth clarifying b vs m.

Very sad to hear that the only traditional Chinese-language newspaper in Vietnam (“Saigon Liberation”) will no longer go on print from August 1st. It’s over 50 years old, mostly read by old people to keep up with their mother tongue & not so digitally-savy.

Another wild scoop on NPR from Tom Dreisbach: Video shows a man on Jan. 6 shouting for the crowd to kill police: “Kill ‘em!” He admitted saying it. One of Trump’s first acts in office was to cancel his trial and hire him for a job at the Justice Department.
