Huge thanks to Juliet Turner & all the brilliant speakers that took part in this year's Student Forum & shared their work. We've had some fantastic research shared this year at Uni of Reading & are extremely excited to see even more #EarlyCareer #Entomology next year πŸ¦‹ #SF25

After attending a talk on bee conservation by Dave Goulson at Royal Entomological Society I felt inspired to build some clay houses for solitary bees, specifically the Hairy-footed Flower Bees that often visit our garden. I will share updates if there is any nesting success!🐝

Yesterday I took a break from work to chase insects around the park. I managed to photograph what I think are Ectemnius wasps, which I have not knowingly encountered before but already really love. πŸ“ Milham Ford Nature Park, Oxford

Moth trapping for Oxford Biology FSC Slapton Ley, and today we got a couple of species that are new to me! Left: The White-Point Moth/ Mythimna albipuncta (a recent colonist of the UK, only established since 2000) Right: Yellow-barred Brindle/ Acasis viretata #moths #insectID

It’s the final day of the Oxford Biology FSC Slapton Ley field course and here are some of my moth highlights. Who can name all nine? We had 30 species between two traps over a week. Very low numbers. Just weather and bad luck or part of longer-term declines?

We were very excited to find a small number of glow worms on our final night of the field course. My camera wasn’t quite up to the challenge. I tried both with and without the flash. You get the idea! πŸ“ Devon, UK

I have a new job! A research position in Farmland Ecology πŸπŸ”¬ I will be helping with insect identification & conducting pollinator surveys as part of long-term biodiversity monitoring in regen. ag. I will share my time between this & my evolutionary research at Oxford.

Amazing camouflage of two fish I noticed in an estuary yesterday - Sand Goby and Flounder. Even with the photo cropped as it is, the flounder is hard to see! πŸ“ the north coast of Scotland
