The first Office for National Statistics (ONS) data release of the Labour government shows GDP growth of 0.4% in May, while goods trade shrunk by 6.6% and services trade grew 0.4% leaving the UK’s big picture trade performance unchanged. A thread 1/x

"Well begun is half done." - Aristotle. Great to be invited back to German House this week to present our work on UK–EU Veterinary Agreement and Agri-food Trade and stimulate discussions from experts. This is a good beginning and we are proud to play a part. @shepotylo @gmssngr

Brexit is having “profound and ongoing” negative impact on UK goods exports and imports, latest Jun Du analysis finds. No one lives in the counter factual world, but leaving single marks continues to cost UK. And 2023 was worse! 1/2 on.ft.com/4gpd3qd

Britain self sanctioned itself with Brexit trade barriers, making it almost impossible to export and import goods to/from our biggest market. The new deals with the RoW are worse and British businesses are suffering as there’s less trade, less variety and higher prices.  Labour

Surprised and saddened by this news on UK in a Changing Europe. I've also had a hard time this year to secure resources for my Brexit trade work, as my boss thinks it should be paid by an external funder. Q: Who should pay for creating "unpopular" but timely, badly needed public goods❓ Economic and Social Research Council

It’s REALLY not f***ing surprising that exporters from mainland Europe are turning their backs on supplying Britain because of the “painful” new Brexit border checks putting trading relationships at “breaking point” What ought to WAKE people up is that also domestic production
