Johns Hopkins raises graduate student salaries to $47000 per year starting July 2024. The students won this through unionizing and collective bargaining.

Granule cells in the cerebellum are tiny, making it impossible to find them with regular probes. Neuropixels Ultra might make this a possibility. Mohammad Amin Fakharian & Alden Shoup successfully recorded from the cerebellum of marmosets during a saccade task using Ultras.

As you are quietly reading this text, you're making saccades. Meanwhile, in your cerebellum there is a storm of activity: the neurons are monitoring the movements, correcting them so each lands on target. You can listen in during a Neuropixels recording. Work of Jafar Doostmohammadi

In the cerebellum, neurons are placed in competition with one another, nulling the downstream effects of each other's spikes, in a well-organized subtractive process that produces a fast changing, precise output from a collection of slow, noisy neurons.
