Orioles on MASN I never saw passion from Hyde. We could have had AI manage the team. I’m reading The Last Manager about Earl Weaver. The contrast in expertise, passion, and desire to win could not be greater. Hyde quiet quit a long time ago.

Outstanding NYT profile of Pope Leo. “He washed the feet of the faithful in a shack with a dirt floor, wore jeans and spoke plainly. His homilies were unusually direct. ‘He’d say that a homily should be short and to the point, like a miniskirt.’” nytimes.com/2025/05/17/wor…

John W. Miller after listening to your interview with Chris Mad Dog Russo, I picked up your book on my last trip to B&N. I’m glad I did, great read. I just finished looking up some of the references on YouTube, including Alice Sweet. Classic!

Happy Birthday to Sigrid Undset (May 20, 1882 – June 10, 1949) I need to re-read her great, psychologically complex trilogy, Kristin Lavransdatter.

Only 3 yrs. ago, Cole Young was in WPIAL baseball playoffs for North Allegheny. Now he's on a hot streak in minor leagues and 1 step away from majors. But in this week's Prep Talk, Cole talks about a rough patch he had to endure when he hit "rock bottom." post-gazette.com/sports/hsother…

.Tim Kurkjian on Orioles next manager: "I would hire a manager with experience. Skip Schumaker is out there, David Ross, Joe Girardi, who knows who else. But to me, experience in the big league dugout matters. I really believe there is an art to managing."

Memorial Day weekend is always a great time to pick up a baseball book in celebration of the official start of summer. I highly recommend a quartet of fantastic baseball books written by Mark Whicker, John W. Miller, David Krell, and Scott Miller.

Mariner Muse So I read "The Last Manager" earlier this year on Earl Weaver. Great book. Tons of fun stories from a different era of the game. The one thing I've been thinking about is the singular influence a manager can have on a team/franchise.
