We had a wonderful afternoon with the students from Kakisa Lake school where we visited a site that burned in 2014. We saw new tree seedlings, big burnt trees and the students learned how to take tree measurements🔥🌲📏

Field work update! We spent June in beautiful old growth forests underlaid by permafrost to investigate how thawing permafrost is affecting caribou lichen

July was spent in newly burned forests (all burned in 2023) where we are hoping to understand where caribou lichen persists post fire and how pre-fire lichen influences burn severity🔥
