Just a robot arm with some 3D printed appendages that Luke Church has been playing around with. It uses a flashlight to tease the optical path and waves around like a toddler to confuse the LIDAR. Presumably Manifold does something useful here, you never know.

I've been obsessed with the simple problem of tidying our house using robots. Specifically, none of the vacuums are hackable so I can't coordinate with a toy picking dog and a stair climbing transport to clean out the entropy to avoid jamming the thing. Seems like a simple ask.

There is always that exception, re. writing an email on what you did last week. Had a guy on our team drop off the radar for four weeks, spent his time in a nuclear resistant bunker to escape cell signal. A decade later his 300 lines of C is still in use by 100M people or so.

At Manifold are really interested in the spatial extent and position of this squishmellow. Triple LIDAR interested. Hacking the sensor fusion/world model pipeline.

Field robotics with lab gear, only the sensors got to go this time. The tree trunk needs to be labeled in the world model, it presents a significant hazard. Foliage is kind of OK, you can still get branches on your head but it usually isn't that bad. Luke Church

“Software has good margins.” Ok, but why? You’ve probably been told that it’s because there’s zero replication cost. But that isn’t true. It simply looks that way because the replication cost and the consumer price are very far apart due to the fact that you have a monopoly.

We have split machines into three distinct disciplines: design the machine, manufacture it and operate it. Not very long ago this separation of concerns didn't exist. We might be heading back into integrated mode but design supercharged by the internet.

We used to hunt whitetail near farmland with free range Herefords. Cows would give birth in blizzards and heading in and out to stands we would always check on the herd and any newborns. Robots will dramatically increase livestock quality of life.

Big tunneling milestone! For the first time, TBC has continuously mined in a Zero-People-in-Tunnel (ZPIT) configuration. There is nobody in the machine (besides the videographer), which is simultaneously advancing forward and erecting a ring (i.e. building the tunnel). Each
