When people ask me about how I like my school, it always jars me, because I don't; I don't interact with them much anymore. The last time I was on campus an admin tried to make a joke in front of a bunch of new students at my expense. So yeah, I don't care about it.

Feel free to ask about my work, what I'm excited about (a lot these days), and all the things I'm up to (a lot these days also). But yeah, the institution is not on there, so prepare for a fake, diplomatic answer when asked 🤣.

Honestly, their emails (prob talking about how great they think they are) mostly go to my spam.

Like, you literally can't talk about how great you are when people graduate on time but don't go anywhere afterwards, and you're haemorrhaging faculty (churn). I had someone recently see my badge and say "y'all are always hiring?" 😬

Let's say we have terrible students. Churn doesn't help with supporting them. Ofc there are very good students who would have done well anywhere, but you have to know how much harder it is for them to succeed under these conditions, esp on the job market.

Calibration is also tricky when you are fairly isolated as an institution. Typically students around several other unis tend to be "under-calibrated" because they see their competition and feel underprepared even if they are doing fine, but our achilles heel is that...

...by being isolated, and hiring people for whom this was not the case, we risk being "overcalibrated" and setting unrealistic expectations for graduation rates, job market, etc. Personally, I'd prefer to be "undercalibrated" and think I suck but do okay than over.
