Delighted to present the UK-Canada Media Freedom Award alongside Mélanie Joly to Amu TV. The prize was accepted on behalf of independent media organisations in Afghanistan, committed to reporting against the rollback of rights including for women and girls.

As 🇬🇧 Minister for Human Rights, I had the pleasure of hosting an event at Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office to mark #HumanRightsDay. David Lammy, Attorney General's Office, and I set out the UK's commitment to upholding and protecting human rights, democracy and the rule of law.


Great to be in #Riyadh #IGF24 discuss the importance of the multi stakeholder approach to preventing internet shutdowns - thanks to Access Now Oxford Internet Institute Google Alex Walden UN Human Rights for their support.


When governments shut down the internet, growth, development and support for vulnerable people suffers. As the UK concludes our time as chair of Freedom Online Coalition’s Task Force of Internet Shutdowns, we commit to always enabling internet access in line with the law. #IGF2024

1/2: The United Kingdom 🇬🇧, alongside FOC Advisory Network co-Chairs Access Now and Global Network Initiative, has led the FOC's Task Force on Internet Shutdowns to advance efforts for like-minded countries, civil society, and the private sector to anticipate and respond to #InternetShutdowns.

Grateful to Annaliese Dodds and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for leadership as the recent Freedom Online Coalition Task Force on #InternetShutdowns Co-Chair. Robust partnership among like-minded countries, civil society, + the private sector supports an open, interoperable, secure, & resilient Internet.
