It must be disconcerting for breeding 'limosa' Black-tailed Godwits at WWT Welney - trying to get on with egg laying etc., with swirling flocks of 'islandica' preparing to fly to Iceland in a couple of weeks. wadertales.wordpress.com/2016/04/11/god… Blog from 7 April 2016 🎂9⃣ #ornithology

Lovely day at Matsalu Bay in Estonia watching thousands of Barnacle & White-fronted geese. Decent numbers of Bewick's swans, too. Smaller numbers of Whooper swans & Bean geese. Wildfowl heaven 😍

It’s World Curlew Day and I recently met Mary Colwell of Curlew Action to talk about these incredible birds & to hear about an event in Stroud later today. Hear out chat for BBC Gloucestershire here: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0… (1hr, 14mins & 1hr, 39mins in)

Happy #WorldCurlewDay This iconic wetland species faces huge challenges - like habitat loss, predation and flooding. WWT will once again this year be working hard to try help these beautiful birds have a successful season.

Snuggled in a sleeping bag in a hut deep inside an Estonian forest after a great evening watching Brown bears! We can hear them splashing around in water outside, just meters from our beds!! A Ural owl calling too!

We had a super night deep in an Estonian forest. x3 Brown bears seen, Ural owl heard & Black woodpecker seen too! Was great waking early to see the bears in daylight 🙌

Time to leave Estonia. Always mixed emotions. The amazing diversity of species, the wild landscapes, lonely & lovely all wrapped in one! The constant, loud, bird song is one thing that will be noticeably absent on arriving back into the UK. Thank you, David Dinsley. Great trip
