Queenslanders have awoken to heartbreaking news of the tragic deaths of Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow, killed while serving our community. My condolences go out to their families and friends of the victims, and to their QPS colleagues.

I’m saddened this morning to hear of the passing of my friend and colleague Jim Molan. He leaves behind a significant legacy of securing Australia’s borders as the co-author of Operation Sovereign Borders. My heartfelt condolences to Anne, his children and grandchildren.

Concerning reports that several boats have been intercepted in the last month heading to our shores from Indonesia. Official ABF reports have not been released but Labor’s policy of abolishing TPVs only weakens border protection and creates opportunities for people smugglers.

Labor should protect Australian citizens and the people who live here and abide by our laws – instead of prioritising foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.

Going soft on foreign criminals is not in the national interest - and makes our community less safe.
