Room for reform but consolidation no silver bullet. Most critical for maintaining & improving public transit w/its collective (eco envir =) benefits is $ (yikes DeWitte implied $ AFTER consolidation, making another public good w/ added unfunded mandate) chicagotribune.com/2024/08/19/opi…

We need to rebuild cta Blue Line tracks on Forest Branch & spark a positive feedback loop of speedier, more frequent service-->more riders-->better collective sense of safety, instead of status quo downward spiral. & W Robert Schultz III w/important strategy of transit ambassadors!

Example of project for affluent/airport/white communities built while Black communities get promises. A commission resolution North Corridor to Black communities would go first but FDOT pledged $ for airport service and local $ followed From dissertation journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.117…

In response to the racist vitriol I’m listening to right now let me say: migrants and undocumented Chicagoans ARE Chicagoans. Their home is HERE. And we are not letting them be stolen away from their communities.

Our convo will have to evolve based on yesterday, but I value what the rest of the panel will have to share. We're The ACSP in Capitol Hill room tomorrow/Thurs at 11am. I'm leaning towards the latter...

Powerful strike line by Illinois Nurses Association this am demanding that UniversityofIllinois provide all workers with 12 weeks of paid parental leave, the same rights educators won for all of CPS - Chicago Public Schools with the support of Mayor Brandon Johnson. + Key staffing demands to ensure patient protections.

Later connected with Senator Dick Durbin staff. Didn't have rationale for yesterday's yes vote on VA or commit to vote no in all nominees, force roll calls and deny quorum. We need all of our Senators visibly raising the alarm and obstructing this dangerous & unlawful administration

I think the messaging around labors bill and advocates MMA is legit confusing. It often focuses on Chicagolands public transit fiscal cliff, but neither has funding. The backers just pledge to go for investment next.

Kate Lowe (she) (@kateontransport) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Bloom (press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book…) explains public transit needs investment, not magical thinking. Better coordination desirable, but funding is essential (frequency that requires $ is rider priority). Can't reform away continued need for funding, political will and good leadership
