SCOTUS could release their ICWA decision tomorrow. Send Indigenous Peoples some love. The methods may change, but colonialism never stopped. They are still attacking our sovereignty for economic gain, at the expense of our children's wellbeing. forbes.com/sites/victorlo…

In our new historical demography paper, J. David Hacker and I examine the impact of racial residential segregation on child mortality using the 1900&1910 census. We show that even prior to the creation of Jim Crows, and HOLC maps, structural racism has impacted health. MPC

In #Brackeen the plaintiffs tried to argue that #ICWA was unconstitutional for 3 big reasons. First, that it was racial discrimination against the non-Native foster parents who wanted to adopt #Native kids. On this ground #SCOTUS ruled they don’t have standing.

Indigenous data erasure is real. One moment, the legend Dr. Utibe R. Essien, MD MPH mentions structural barriers to Black, Latino & Native med school enrollment in the context of the affirmative action ban, then PBS PBS News erases Natives the next. I fixed it but when will this end?

NEW PAPER 🚨 Just in time for Indigenous Peoples Day & ERAS season. Indigenous physicians are highly underrepresented. We found it will take over 100 years to close the gap if current matriculation remains stable ‼️ We propose systemic solutions 💡 sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
