ED chest pain & aortic dissection - how useful is the ADDRS score? We found following ADDRS recommended testing vastly increases CTA ordering (2200%) with only ~0.5% positives. Is this justified? Is this score really fit for purpose? pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32808448/ Western Health

Occupational violence in ED is a huge problem. If we can predict it and intervene, some OVA events can be avoided. See the promising outcomes in Ainslie Senz' paper on the use of the BOC chart and its response matrix in EMA. Western Health EMA Journal ow.ly/r0Mn50CSLtT

Can we use health information (eg from medical records) for EM research without consent?? It's complex. Thx to Chase for his insightful article on this. Take a look. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33506592/ Western Health Australian Centre for Health Law Research (ACHLR) EMA Journal

Call to all Footscray Hospital past and current team members! This week Joy Robertson and Spaso reach 50 years at WH. Join us in celebrating them. Contact David Mai ([email protected]) to contribute a short video memory or message to a compilation we are preparing.

Is the Aortic Dissection Detection Risk Score the answer for avoiding missed diagnosis of aortic dissection. Probably not. See my reasoning in Exploration of Medicine (ow.ly/q5CZ50G2M5O) explorationpub.com/Journals/em/Ar… Western Health

Police have powers to detail and transport people they think have mental illness and are at risk of harm. Are these powers being used appropriately? What are the outcomes? Is there a less restrictive approach? See our results in EMA. EMA Journal Western Health Australian Centre for Health Law Research (ACHLR)

Congratulations to Dr Chase Schultz-Swarthfigure on his presentation at @AABHL2021. Really challenges the use of health information collected in ED for research without their consent. More work needed! Western Health

It's important to challenge dogma - in ED especially when data was not derived from ED patients. Pregnancy has been listed as a red flag for serious headache cause, but is this true in ED? Check out our findings from the HEAD studies. ow.ly/KXMg50JaIKA Western Health

Check this out! So excited to be part of a brilliant CME resource and great social mission! Pocketbook of Emergency Medicine - >130 lectures incl core topics in EM. continulus.com/lp/em-pocketbo… #FOAM #FOAMed #continuingeducation Continulus Western Health Anne-Maree Kelly

Do we need to rethink treatment of headache in EDs? Too many opioids and not enough evidence-based treatments! See doi.org/10.5694/mja2.5… Anne-Maree Kelly Western Health

Wonderful news! Spaso Miljesic, a much loved member of the Footscray Hospital ED team and originator of the Spaso technique for shoulder dislocation reduction was made a Nursing Legend at last night's Western Health Nursing Awards. Really well deserved. Western Health

Congratulations to the pioneering Emergency Medicine team at Koprivnica, Croatia. It's 20 years since they completed training in partnership with Western Health. EM has gone from strength to strength. I am proud to have had a small part in this. Well done to all! Western Health

Working out when and how to apply so-called Duty of Care principles in an emergency department can be difficult. See onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/17… for an approach to this complex issue. Western Health Australian Centre for Health Law Research (ACHLR)
