So good to reconnect with the MBI diaspora. We reminisced about the unique opportunity for interdisciplinary research in a fun atmosphere

It was such a lovely day connecting with Olivera, Ariane and Jost. Now so overshadowed by the doomsday election. Good to be in Paris!

Marion Fernandez, postdoc at @UTMBHealth in Dr. Linda Kenney's lab, presented her work on "FLIM Imaging of mCherryTYG Deciphers pH Dynamics and Lifestyles of Salmonella Typhimurium". A deep dive into bacterial movement & behavior! 🦠🔬 #UTMB #Salmonella #BLASTMeeting2025

I hate using X these days but I am so proud to announce that Marion Fernandez just won the Bob MacNab best poster award at BLAST. Especially poignant since Bob was such a dear friend. We show how studying Typhimuium is not a good model for understanding MDR Typhi strain H58

My heart is broken as I announce the passing of my beloved husband, science partner and friend, Michael Sheetz. A remarkable scientist we packed 40 years of living into 20. Rejuvenation of senescent cells and mice in Press in Aging Cell; his last words were this was his best work

In a chick chorioallantoic membrane tumor model, Salmonella preferentially colonized tumors, causing tumor cell death. The growth defects of attenuated strain VNP20009 reduced tumor colonization & explains why the clinical trial failed. Linda Kenney #mBio doi.org/10.1128/mbio.0…

Using an MDR, clinically-relevant rapidly expanding Typhi strain, we show that it behaves very differently from Typhimurium. We connect a higher redox stress that impacts SsrB-dependent SPI-2 regulation mitigated by the sulfur assimilation pathway. journals.asm.org/eprint/2MZKTFB…

Here is the working link: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40422406/ A career first, my editor thanked us for sending this beautiful work to their journal! Kudos to post-doc Marion Fernandez for her unwavering perseverance.

For anyone interested in challenging pH measurements, please check out ACS Sensors: 10.1021/acssensors.5c00404. A surprising pH heterogeneity inside cells explains the heterogeneity in Salmonella SPI-2 expression. A group effort headed by talented post-doc M. Kiran Singh.

Yesterday it was my honor and my pleasure to present Mike Sheetz’s most recent work to the Physiology course in Woods Hole. It was so heartening to have it so well received. Thank you Amy and Jennifer for making it happen. Together we will preserve his legacy

I am thrilled to announce an editors pick: journals.asm.org/doi/epub/10.11… We stimulated the immune response of aged mice by low frequency ultrasound to reduce infection. Mike's legacy lives on.

Linda Kenney kicks off Day 2 with a touching tribute to Prof Mike Sheetz by sharing his last (but ongoing) work on how low‑frequency ultrasound reset aging cells, dialing down inflammation and restoring function—suggesting a simple mechanical approach to tackling aging. #MBIMPG2025

Yesterday it was my honor to be a Keynote speaker at the First Indian Mechanobiology meeting. It’s heartwarming to see how much enthusiasm there is for Mikes work on low frequency ultrasound. And to see MBI alumni thriving. Tijore lab students rock!

Just saw my first sn—- on the ncbs. I have been walking around terrified all week. I can’t even look at the signs to see which ones are venomous 😰
