Have a safe and happy Fireworks Night! Two thousand years ago, Roman shepherds jumped through small fires at the Parilia festival for healthy animals and crops. (Some now do it on St John's Day, others on the Iranian New Year, pictured. There's always an appreciative audience!)

We’re delighted Cotswold Archaeology have awarded our research degree student Joe Locke a 6 month grant to assist the writing up of his findings. Since 2021 Joe has been undertaking a pioneering study of the ceramic flue tiles that conduct hot air around Roman baths and houses.

The latest from Prof Swift's research project on ancient British hoards: These items are from the Icklingham hoard in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Cambridge. Were 'cornerless cube' glass beads valuable enough to hoard with gold and silver? buff.ly/4en3iI8
