1/n EPIC-UNC is excited to release our new work on educator attrition in NC through the 2021-22 school year. epic.unc.edu/wp-content/upl… Overall, there are several key takeaways:

Keung Hui EPIC-UNC has completed multiple studies on start times in NC. Later middle and high school start times benefit student outcomes. Important not to forget middle schools! Evidence suggests that starting elementary schools earlier is a reasonable policy tradeoff.

1/n NC’s current school accountability model assigns much more weight to test proficiency than test growth. But it doesn’t have to be that way. In this brief epic.unc.edu/wp-content/upl… we considered hypothetical accountability models with different weightings. A few takeaways:

I co-wrote this piece for EdNC describing our research on student attendance and grades in '20-21. Impacts of the pandemic on these outcomes were incredibly varied. To achieve full recovery, we need to identify, reach, and sustain supports for the most severely impacted students.
