Finally after 6pm this evening, the temperature dropped over 3° in the hour as the cold front edged south. We lost the record breaking SW wind and winds shifted to the NW. That front though is expected to return north again with more warm air behind it for tomorrow Sunday.

Today Monday, marks the end of the warm/sultry conditions. Cooler this week but a lot of dry weather around mid-week. Cool with some showers for the weekend. Quite cool and breezy on Sunday for the hurling match in Croke Park, with one or two passing light showers.

Met Éireann confirming that it wasn't just Kilkenny that experienced that record warm night 2 days ago. 6 other stations in Leinster had their warmest June night and warmest on record at Phoenix Park and Oak Park.

theguardian.com/us-news/2025/j… Ted Cruz, the Texas Senator, ensured Trump spending bill slashed weather forecasting funding. “Ted Cruz has spent years doing big oil’s bidding, gutting climate research, defunding Noaa, and weakening the very systems meant to warn and protect the public."

The maximum yesterday in Kilkenny was 27.0° which ties with June 20th as our warmest day of the year so far. Likely to be hotter again over Friday and Saturday and it won't be until Monday when we will notice a drop in temperature.

It got to 30° C in Kilkenny yesterday. The heat was spread across all of Britain and Ireland. But probably most unusual temperature was the 32.2° recorded in the Highlands of Scotland at Aviemore. Aviemore is more renowned as Scotland's most visited ski resort during the winter.

This morning's ECMWF model takes a deep storm into Scotland next Monday evening. It would be a close call for Ireland with gusts of over 170 km/hr (105 mph) for the Western Isles. This severe forecast is not supported by all models and hopefully it won't come to fruition.

There is still a lot of uncertainty about next Monday's potential storm. The ECMWF model is still taking it into Scotland and not too bad for us except the far north of Ireland. We definitely dont want the outcome forecast by the UKMO model today. That would bring devastation.

I was always under the impression that sea swimming off the west Norwegian coast would be a bit of challenge. But not after the hot summer they've had. Sea temperatures are a pleasant 18° C. Anomalies are running 3° to 4° above normal there & much of this is heading to the Arctic

Looking through the models this morning and there's a growing consensus that the track for Monday's storm will bring it into Scotland and traverse across the North Sea. ECMWF going for deepest outcome with still strong gusts across the middle of Scotland. Not so bad for us.

Storm Floris is going to arrive on Monday, bringing potentially disruptive winds to northern parts of the UK. It’ll also bring a spell of heavy rain.
