One thing I would like to highlight about Hasumi is that he’s an incredible prose stylist in addition to being a great critic. His essay “Cinema’s Agitation Device” consists of a single breathtakingly elongated sentence across 22 pages.

At least in South Korea, Hou Hsiao-hsien completely eclipsed Edward Yang until the arrival of A Brighter Summer Day restoration. I don’t really see people talking about Oliveira or Garrel much these days, either.
