Celebrating one week in post* and the eve of my new rest day by testing a crucial question of any institutional home address… …will the takeaway deliver? *holier celebrations include presiding at the Eucharist here for the first time on Sunday morning. Can’t wait!

Thought this statue in the Lady Chapel at St John the Baptist, Burford was rather lovely. The information alongisde reflects on us being children of God. It’s location also had me pondering Joseph and Jesus, perhaps at home in Nazareth. I can almost hear Mary laughing along.

Whatever promise you make to God, as a Religious or any other way of being a Christian, you will make it more than once because we all begin again and again #Choice4God #SimplyLife

Pondering one of the great questions of our time on the journey home from the Gore Lecture in London this evening… Who on earth gets on/off the Oxford Tube at the M40 stop near Lewknor?

Collected from the Porters this morning before heading to the Cathedral, our Chapel, for Michael-Mass. As we await Michaelmas Term I’m contemplating God’s words to Jacob, words for us too as a new academic year begins: “Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go”

A move into a new Diocese, into chaplaincy and soon into term means I’m doing a lot of pondering re life in boundary spaces. It felt as though God saw that and chuckled today as the benefice neighbouring Leighton Buzzard, on the Oxford Dio border, appeared on today’s prayer list.

A delight of my new job is having oversight of the student-led College Choir; a chance for me to try choral singing for the first time. Jumped down from the officiant’s stall to join in the anthem at our first Evensong today and had a blast. Never too late to learn a new skill!

I’ve recently started taking French classes (the everyday stuff, not for academic reading). Today we’ve hit the “describe yourself” lesson…. Which in previous experience has turned into a chaos of gender and ecclesial tradition. French speakers, do I go for “une aumônière”?

Happy patronal*, fellow Chaplains. From the collect for Martin of Tours’ feast: give us grace to follow him in his love and compassion for the needy, and enable your Church to claim for all people their inheritance as children of God. *by happy coincidence also my birthday!
