What a day for the C S Lewis group at Ulster! A fantastic mini symposium with a brilliant range of speakers and talks. Much food for thought, can't wait for November and the next conference. Many congratulations @LewisSymposium

A Druid in Glastonbury told me certain kinds of mist were considered liminal manifestations. He spoke about some fogs having an otherworldly sentience & concealed supernatural beings he called 'The Ancients of Avalon'. Painting by Ernst Ferdinand Oehme - Procession in the Fog

Celtic older women were revered as the 'wisdom keepers'. Over time they were called the 'Crone' which derived from the word 'Crown' meaning they were illuminated 'shining ones'. The church feared these wise women, murdering & relegating them to the role of the 'evil ugly hag'.

Since I believe Tolkien's works are the Iliad of our time, I will begin a new Tolkien art series that will attempt to capture the beauty and depth of middle-earth. These will likely follow a similar style to the Gondolin piece depicted here. Suggestions are more than welcome.

Dog rose. Latin, 'rosa canina', from Greek κυνόροδον (kunórodon). Name arose out of the belief in classical times that the root was a cure for the bite of a mad dog! Also used in 18th & 19th C to treat the bite of rabid dogs! Aka dogberry & witches' briar. 📷mine #FolkloreSunday

In many parts of #Ireland, a🕯️is still placed in the window #Christmas Eve! Symbolic welcome to Mary & Joseph as they travelled looking for shelter. Also indicated a safe place for priests to perform mass in the past, as during Penal Times this was not allowed. #FairyTaleTuesday

St Brigid was taking some fatted pigs quite a distance from the plain of the River Barrow to Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath. A 3-4 day journey. What on earth should appear from the forest, but wild #wolves! They helped Brigid escort the pigs all the way to Co. Meath! #FaustianFriday 🐺
