@IMSR_UoB Christmas party. #HodSquad primed and ready @DNikarus Julia Ast Fiona Ashford Federica Cuozzo! Just missing Katrina Viloria who is back in Alaska via Jamaica!

Pleased to preprint our recent studies on Vitamin D-binding protein (DBP) and maintenance of alpha cell function together with Katrina Viloria and Martin Hewison. A true multicollaborative effort involving XX IBEX-35 BOLSA ESPAÑA Linford Briant. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our #HodSquad lab website has now gone live isletbiologylab.com! Lots of pics and project details available there. Big shout out to all the lab for helping, and to Federica Cuozzo for her artistic genius! @DNikarus Julia Ast Katrina Viloria Nick Fine Fiona Ashford !

After much work our #COVID19 testing lab at Uni of Birmingham has started. In the photo you can see some of the team who has made it all possible. We’ll be helping University Hospitals Birmingham BWC NHS Trust and West Midlands Ambulance Service #HelpUsHelpYou test their staff and get them back to work - aiming to deliver up to 10k tests/day

Our latest study, using imaging and stable isotope tracing, shows that PHD3 is essential for maintaining glucose metabolism in pancreatic beta cells during metabolic stress. A great effort by @DNikarus Federica Cuozzo and a fun collaboration with Daniel A Tennant! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our latest study showing that Vitamin D-binding protein regulates alpha cell function Martin Hewison. A remarkable amount of work by Katrina Viloria, which would not have been possible without Noel G Morgan Sarah Richardson Linford Briant and XX. cell.com/cell-reports/f….

IMSR ONLINE SEMINAR: Join us tomorrow at 13:00 for a talk on PHD3 maintains β-cell #glucose #metabolism during fatty acid excess by Federica Cuozzo! For Zoom details, follow the link tinyurl.com/y94q8sot. David Hodson @UoBMDSPostGrad @unibirm_MDS

Just one more week to the vitamin D event of the year. Join us online on Thursday 9th July at 18.00 GMT to hear more about vitamin D and Covid-19 @IMSR_UoB Vitamin D Workshop Vitamin D Council #vitaminD

Join us for the next in our 'Physiology of #Obesity' series on 11 August 14:00 - 15:00 BST. Emily Miedzybrodzka and Katrina Viloria will be discussing 'Hormonal Regulation of Gut and Pancreas Physiology'. Organised by Peter Aldiss, PhD & Jo Edward Lewis. Register here: buff.ly/33x1ytM

The Islet biology lab David Hodson studies how vitamin D binding protein (DBP) influences alpha cell function. High resolution imaging reveals changes in the actin cytoskeleton of islets wild type (left half) or deleted (right half) for DBP. Photo by Katrina Viloria.

Today is International Women's Day. However, every day, I am reminded how lucky I am to work with these absolute research superstars @DNikarus Julia Ast Katrina Viloria Federica Cuozzo Annie @IMSR_UoB #IWD2021 #UoBwomen.

The 1st invited review of the Physiology of Obesity M2M special issue Jo Edward Lewis Journal of Physiology 'Vitamin D binding protein/GC‐globulin: A novel regulator of alpha cell function and glucagon secretion' by Katrina Viloria Martin Hewison and David Hodson 🎉🎉 bit.ly/3cv19Lg
