Online engagement can, in the right circumstances, yield better results. The key to making a virtual event engaging is to focus on user experience, including: a project website, digital ads, a survey, and virtual reality simulations. 🤝

The 3D visualization process creates a visual narrative that closely mimics real-world scenarios. In transportation, it’s particularly valuable for simulating transportation infrastructure improvements and presenting “before-and-after” scenarios. 💡

The hybrid approach, a mix of in-person and virtual attendees, has proved particularly effective for public engagement. On our San Mateo Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP) project, hybrid efforts brought in more than 700 comments from the community. 🏘️

Virtual & hybrid engagement offer more ways to interact with a project, which can allow more people to participate. Content can be easily translated or closed captioned, 3D visualizations can simplify complex concepts, & in-person engagement can reach a different demographic.

Recent advancements in both hardware and software have significantly enhanced the capabilities of 3D visualization. Better drone photography and gaming technology are increasing precision and rendering power. ⚙️

New technologies like mixed reality, virtual reality, & digital twins may offer even more innovative solutions for transportation planning and public engagement. More accessible & sophisticated technologies will lead to more connected urban environments. 🤝
