Yo folks, today is the day! 1. Compiling to Assembly from Scratch is available in print for $49. 2. It is free to read online from the book's website. And I'm not telling you the website, because this platform simply cannot tolerate links.

TIL you can output SBT tracing information in a format profiler.firefox.com undestands. sbt -Dsbt.task.timings=true -Dsbt.traces=true compile Then build.trace file will be in ./target/traces/ folder. Make sure you use latest SBT as older ones have a bug in JSON output!

Тsфdiиg The ESP32 SDK uses Python to drive CMake to generate Ninja files to build the C/C++ source files. It’s _beyond_ ridiculous … In alternative universe this would have been a Monty Python sketch: “The Ministry of Silly Build Systems” – but it’s a reality.

We are not rewriting Scala 3 to Go (duh!) but yesterday's post had a seed of truth in it. You might think that languages like Scala are cooked with the advent of LLMs, that new, unfamiliar APIs will trip the models and make agentic development impossible. This is not true at all,

Golang designers are infuriating because they have never seen whats possible and refuse to see it, only seeing Algol and C. They also completely misunderstand complexity. They believe that they make programming less complex by make the language less complex. No, program

Even with close confirmation I sometimes close my terminal and think "OH FUCK NO." Coming soon to Ghostty, you can undo that. 🥰 (Technical details: we keep the terminal running for a configurable time in the background before terminating for real, similar to email undo send).
