My sister’s high school locked down earlier today due to an active shooter at a nearby high school, and it’s still insane to me that we’ve just accepted this as okay and normal.

I know the running joke is that management will reward your hard work with a pizza party instead of cash but management won’t even order enough pizza for everybody at the party so I’ll take what I can get at this point.

If I can’t have the day off today, I’m only responding to emails that begin with, “I hope this email finds you well on Munsee Lenape land.”

Happy 2nd birthday to my book! When it was published 2 years ago, I never could’ve imagined all the places and corners of the world it would take me and how many people would resonate with it. So grateful every single day that I get to wake up and be a poet!!

My hot take about voting is that most of the time it’s not about you/your voice. That’s an incredibly narrow worldview to hold. It’s about choosing an option that’s beneficial for everyone as a whole, not just you. Voting should come from a place of empathy and care for others.

If you’re still waiting in line as polls begin to officially close, do not leave. Anyone who is standing in line before the cutoff still has the right to vote. If anyone - including election officials - tries to force you to leave, call 866-OUR-VOTE

I had to teach poetry workshop until 9:30 tonight and I ended the class by telling them that the very act of writing poetry is a pushback against forces beyond our power. And these words of Adrienne Rich: “Poetry isn’t revolution but a way of knowing that it must come.”

lock tf in. get your ass in mutual aid groups. lend your time to meal services. care for people in the way a vote simply never could. advocate for community gardens and libraries. stop betraying community. you don’t get a sticker or gold star. lock in.

I want you to rest and grieve, but then I want this to energize you. Our founding fathers were very clear that power does not come from a country’s leaders but from its people. Organize, sign petitions, show up for your local elections.

I think I’ve decided that I no longer want to be on X because all the things I loved about this platform when I first joined are gone. You can catch me telling really funny jokes on Insta or Threads instead. Catch you on the other side.
