Koeberg unit 2 was ā€œinadvertently trippedā€ while it was being worked on at 9:26am on 2 March 2025. This ā€˜inadvertent’ type of incident does not inspire confidence in the ability of Eskom to safely operate a nuclear plant so close to Cape Town. 😳

#Koeberg is once again producing zero power since the ā€˜inadvertent’ trip on Sunday morning caused by someone doing something incorrectly at the plant. This demonstrates once again how #nuclear power must be classified as 'intermittent'. citizen.co.za/news/south-afr…

#Koeberg is completely offline, yet there's no #loadsheddingšŸ¤” Is it worth the risk to trust Eskom with a million+ kilograms of highly radioactive spent fuel just 30km from #CapeTown? And to extend the plant’s life by 20 years beyond its original design? dailymaverick.co.za/article/2025-0…

We have been promised by Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa that there will be transparency from Eskom Hld SOC Ltd about #Koeberg going forward. Please can we have a detailed explanation of the ā€˜inadvertent’ trip that occurred on Sunday? Who was working on the plant & what went wrong?iol.co.za/capetimes/news…

Ex-NNR board member Peter Becker chats to @Newzroom40 about #Koeberg’s latest trip, ongoing reliability issues & controversial life extension. What does this mean for SA’s energy future when Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says there’ll be accountability for #loadshedding? youtu.be/JVqW5NRt-II

In 2020, #nuclear, wind and solar were the cheapest in many regions. By 2027, solar takes over and by 2030, solar dominates globally as the lowest-cost power source! Nuclear is obsolete. #EnergyTransition

ā€œ#Koeberg (is) demonstrably and objectively intermittentā€ - Chris Yelland. ā€œKoeberg... was off for nearly a year undergoing a major refurbishment. Yet here again it’s tripping & tripping again. Definitely not reliable,ā€ - Anton Eberhard. timeslive.co.za/news/south-afr…

Just like #Koeberg’s recent human error causing multiple trips, Europe's largest #nuclear reactor in Finland leaked 100 cubic metres of radioactive coolant after a hatch to the pool had not been closed properly… šŸ¤” #NuclearSafety ndtv.com/world-news/rad…

#Koeberg's recent unplanned outages highlight the challenges of relying on an aging #nuclear facilty for stable power. As #SouthAfrica faces ongoing #loadshedding, we must reassess our energy strategy and prioritise sustainable, reliable alternatives. koebergalert.org/2025/03/13/koe…

Speaking at the EE Business Intelligence webinar on the draft IRP "nuclear power is not commercially viable for the foreseeable future" - Dr Grovè Steyn Grové Steyn

Koeberg Alert (@koebergalert) 's Twitter Profile Photo

#SouthAfrica’s draft Integrated Resource Plan 2024 (IRP) is ā€œdeeply flawedā€ say experts and more like an exercise in ā€œpolicy-based evidence-makingā€. #Nuclear has been forced in and is not a result of an optimal model. dailymaverick.co.za/article/2025-0…

Study shows that #nuclear power plants had the highest cost overruns and delays, with average construction costs exceeding estimates by 102.5%, or $1.56 Why does Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa insist on building nuclear in #SouthAfrica? billion.pv-magazine.com/2025/05/21/nuc…

As the world races to cut emissions by 2030, can we afford to wait for costly, slow-to-build #nuclear plants? #Renewables are faster, cheaper and 10x more effective at reducing COā‚‚, says Dr Paul Dorfman. #EnergyTransition knowledge.energyinst.org/new-energy-wor…

Indigenous people share memories of violent histories of #Nuclear bomb testing, uranium mining & waste dumping – all of which disproportionately affected them. ā€œNuclear actorsā€ frame the tech as ā€œindispensableā€ & ā€œsafeā€ by neatly severing its history. theconversation.com/as-dutton-cham…

ā€œThe govt has already committed R1.5-trillion to future electricity production, but much of this is still earmarked for coal and #Nuclear. Over 200,000 barrels of #Radioactive waste were dumped in the Atlantic. Now French scientists are racing to find them. Meanwhile, #SouthAfrica still has no long-term plan for 1.5 million kgs of #Koeberg’s nuclear waste. indiandefencereview.com/they-dumped-20…

#Renewables are the new frontier of energy security, not #nuclear. So why is #SouthAfrica’s IRP pushing massive new nuclear with no economic or environmental justification? energyconnects.com/videos/video-i…
