We had a terrific team meeting yesterday with super lawyer @Perry_Grossman NYCLU (Find us on Bluesky) speaking to our #DSSG @uwescience summer fellows program about using #DataScience in voting rights litigation. Perry was a lead lawyer in recent #ERCSD victory for Black & Latino representation

New paper with Kivan Polimis and Emilio Zagheni looking at how to combine Facebook and traditional survey data to project migration trends. Open access in PRPR: link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Great to see this terrific open access paper by University of Washington Sociology grad Kivan Polimis and our good friends Monica Alexander and Emilio Zagheni. It's a model of how to use social media data to estimate quantities of interest (in this case, migration).

Congratulations @scurran_uw tyler mccormick Jon Wakefield and Zack Almquist! Great news for CSDE UW students and a wonderful boost for our broader IMPRS-PHDS network on Population, Health and Data Science.

Some SF electeds are pushing the city to approve a “ride along” reality TV show. I wrote about why this is a horrible idea, both legally and ethically. tl;dr govts should be dedicating resources to helping the vulnerable, not exploiting them for copaganda sfchronicle.com/opinion/openfo…
