Of all the bullshit you could spend your time and money on, this test has to be in the >97th percentile for being a useless waste

"Our results suggest that hybridization can significantly influence the recombination landscape, and that the reduction in allele shuffling contributes to the initial purging of introgression in the generations following a hybridization event." biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Pleased to announce that my lab at UC Riverside has been awarded an NIH/NIGMS MIRA. This grant will fund our research on the evolution and genetics of recombination rate variation. We are also now recruiting at multiple levels, starting with postdocs (see QT below!).

My lab at UC Riverside is looking to hire a *lab manager/technician*. We are a evolutionary genetics lab and we are especially looking for someone with experience working with fish (or a desire to learn!). See here for details: samuklab.com/files/TechAd.p…

We know that DNA introgressed from one population into another is often deleterious, but why? Carl Veller and I show that stabilizing selection, by itself, can induce selection against introgressed ancestry. doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

Just posted our first official paper from the lab! Fantastic postdoc @gabbrosandstone led this work, and we're so so happy to have it out! 1/ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Widely observed negative correlation between recombination rate and TE abundance is usually interpreted as recombination rate being the "cause," influencing the efficacy of selection purging TEs. Yet, our recent study "flipped" this causality! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…… (1/5)

For folks still here, the first big project from my group is pre-printed. Super talented postdoc Maria Akopyan explored how reference bias can skew estimates of diversity, demography, divergence and recombination rate with help from Ellie Armstrong 🦁🐯🐻 and @GMenchev. Thread 👇🏽
