I think Yes. What I m today is due to my 3 amzing postdoc mentors from abroad. In addition of doing science, I learned from 1. Sason Shaik- hw to write a good manuscript 2. Caroline Lynn Kamerlin 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇸🇪🇮🇷 ☀️ 🇪🇺🦓 - Interact, collaborate & socialize 3. Carme Rovira - hw to be nice with your grp members.

I don't put my ego, and I don't feel ashamed of reaching out to a good Professor for a postdoc position for my PhD students, even before they ask for recommendations. It may feel unconventional to many people, bt yes, the Professors appreciate it!!

While surviving as a tution teacher, I met a lady in 2008, who suggested me to do research. It ws her belief in me, I risked & did a PhD.She cheered for me on CSIR fellowship, my PDF. Despite family challenges of 9yrs, she chose me partner. All I m, I owe her! Happy b'day Isha.

We often complain-we r not getting this and that. I remember there was a time when state governments had no money to pay salaries to their employees on time. And our parents were still happy and thankful to God that they, at least, had jobs.

Good academic record is just a qualifying criterion in higher education; it’s the quality and quantity of publications that often determine selection. Bt unfortunately, students think otherwise. Plz take your Ph.D projects as seriously as u did in your UG/PG course.

In a conference, 6 plenary talks were given by 6 directors. None of them finished on time, some exceeded by 20 mins. Most of them left after their talks & were shielded by organizers at lunch. It was poor young researchers who were asked to wrap quickly to enjoy lunch🤣

A guy firstly approached my collaborator. My collaborator politely rejected the request and kept collaborating with me. Then unfortunately, our manuscript went to the same guy. And he keeps blocking& forcing us to cite him. Now the standoff is in 12th month of Nat Comm. 😜

The day I transitioned into a computational chemist, I dreamed of interacting with Prof. Sourav Pal. Nw, having the opportunity to deliver a talk in honor of Prof. Pal is truly a goosebump moment. Thanks Prof. Pal, Prof. vidya & Mudit Dixit for kind invitation. #FACTS2025

Just like golf needs a flagstick to guide you to the hole, science needs theory to guide experiments. Predictions may not always be exact, but they definitely show the direction. It's unfortunate many editors and reviewers discourage theory-only research.

Achieved a milestone in PhD supervision, and I feel myself in a different league...My former PhD student, Dr. Surajit Kalita, got a regular faculty position (Assistant Prof.) at Tezpur University (Central Univ)...

The concept of impact factor has greatly misled students. IFs are subject specific and comparing two journals based on IFs is just like comparing apples with oranges. For example, the reputation of Biochemistry is better than some high impact Catalysis and Material journals.

It feels odd when PhD students need an appointment to meet their supervisor. Regardless of how senior or administratively busy the supervisor is, their PhD students should be able to simply knock and say, "May I come in?"

Seems, unlike bureaucrats, professors can only show their powers to PhDs and so they make rules on the name of deep learning: No call to PI; No what's to PI; no meeting without appointment.. Guys!! Please treat PhDs as your coworkers..
