Direct-acting antiviral availability for Hepatitis C (HCV) resulted in an additional 5,682 liver transplants to HCV-negative recipients between 2014 and 2019, a positive externality worth $7.52 billion, from Kevin Callison, @michaeledarden, and Keith Teltser nber.org/papers/w31673


The benefits of pharmaceuticals often spread beyond the direct patient. e.g. Hep-C treatments have reduced liver transplants opening up transplants to patients who otherwise would have died. One reason I find the price controls in the IRA very worrying. marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolu…

New WP w/ Andrew Bibler, Laura Grigolon, and Mark Tremblay (he/him) just dropped! We develop an approach to point identify tax compliance using changes in tax enforcement plus an additional instrument. We then demonstrate the approach with an application to Airbnb collection agreements.
