BREAKING: We are following developments related to a fire in the #Talkeetna area near Montana Creek Road. Multiple Forestry and local firefighters are on-scene. Reported size was three acres.

Montana Creek Road is now closed due to the wildfire burning in the area. The Senior Center is the official shelter, but there is currently not an evacuation order in place.

According to the Alaska Wildland Fire map, the size of the Montana Creek fire near #Talkeetna is now estimated at 200 acres.

The Mat-Su Borough has elevated its evacuation alert level for the Montana Creek Fire to Level 2. This is not an evacuation order, but it means area residents are advised to be prepared to leave on minutes’ notice.

The Mat-Su Borough will be returning to a “Level 1: Ready” evacuation alert level. Incident commander Barkley says conditions mean things could shift quickly, and people in the area should remain prepared to leave if the fire grows.
