๐ข Announcing keynotes for @Silvilaser23 We are honoured to welcome Yadvinder Malhi, Andy Waddington Hexagon Geosystems and Kate E. Jones ๐ฆ These promise to be great sessions that are "not just LiDAR and not just forests" but aim broaden to discourse on what can be achieved with #LiDAR!

Really fascinating to visit @wakehurst_kew and the Millennium Seed Bank @Kew_MSBUK yesterday to discuss their research agenda from seeds to ecosystems to Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery , thanks @Ed_Ikin and colleagues!

Trying to find trees in LiDAR data? Problem: 100s of algorithms but hard to assess their accuracy Solution: use segmented TLS to label trees in ALS, then compare algorithms. Paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.jag.โฆ James Ball Phil Wilkes Kim Calders Mathias Disney @Silvilaser23

Are you attending British Ecological Society's conference this year? Interested in how #lidar can help answer your #ecology questions? Want some guidance on starting out with #3D tree data? ๐Then 'Intro to lidar for forest ecology' is the #BES2023 workshop for you! GIF credit Phil Wilkes

๐ฒ๐ฒsome great coverage of our UK redwoods paper this week by Rebecca Morelle ๐ฒ๐ฒ Thanks to all coauthors UCL Geography @KewScience KewGIS Find your local redwood redwoodworld.co.uk/locations.htm

Weโve been working in the #wetwoodland at @wakehurst_kew today installing dipwells for hydrological monitoring as part of the Wet Woodlands Research Network research network and supporting Steph Batten (she/her)โs PhD. Iโm excited to see what the data show!

Branches were first stripped of their ๐ฟ then scanned in high-resolution. Full details of methods can be found in doi.org/10.1111/2041-2โฆ Methods in Ecology and Evolution

Quote of the day from @wakehurst_kew ecosystem observatory launch: Trees are such good pollen and nectar sources that we should think of them as โsky meadowsโ! Highlight of the day was the wet woodland plot - see ๐ธ Thanks Phil Wilkes for inviting @WoodlandTrust

New tree height allometries derived from terrestrial laser scanning reveal substantial discrepancies with forest inventory methods in tropical rainforests ๐ onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11โฆ Louise Terryn
