The Commonwealth's first heat wave of 2025 - one that began over the weekend - just keeps on going! Temps reached the 90s at all but three of our sites Monday. Readings at many of our stations have met or exceeded the 90 degrees three days in a row now with more to come. #kywx

Late-planted corn knocked down by rain. Within 15 minutes, the station had 30 to 50+ mph gusts and about 1.2 inches of rain. We expect it to be upright soon. ⁦UK Ag Weather Center⁩ ⁦Kentucky Mesonet

It’s a HOT job, but somebody’s gotta do it! In fact, several “somebodys” (lead field technician Gavin Connors, field tech John Farash, and our program manager, Tiffany Clark) hard at work on building a new station in the west which should be online in a month. Stay tuned! #kywx

A check of topsoil moisture and temperatures on this final day of June. While probes at a few sites are measuring less than 20% water fraction by volume, overall, soil moisture remains more than adequate for the state as a whole with no threat for #drought at this time. #kywx

Here's one of our best webcam captures from the weekend: Scattered showers producing three rain shafts in the mountains of southern Pike County not far from the Virginia border Saturday! #kywx

Our site in Franklin County near Frankfort is currently offline, likely the result of a lightning strike over the weekend. Technicians have been dispatched to the site, and we hope to have it operable and back online later today. #kywx

The difference a day (and a cold front) makes in July: While temperatures at most sites are actually warmer than at this time Tuesday, dew points (measurement of moisture in the air) have lowered significantly, resulting in less humid, more tolerable conditions outdoors! #kywx
