We used multiomics and AI to decipher the genome of phage G, the only cultivated megaphage. It's a giant phage! This work couldn't have never happened without Andra Buchan! This is truly the beginning of this phage's story. Phage G is truly a marvel ! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Fifteen years ago, as a graduate student, I read about a giant bacterial virus (e.g., G phage) that was isolated from an Italian lab 40 years prior to that. I have always been in awe of these megaphage.

I have always been in awe of these megaphage, which are phages that have large genomes (~500 kbp) and tend to be large in size (>0.5 um).
