Why the rush to strip support from those too unwell to work, without understanding the consequences? Let’s stop these Universal Credit cuts and build a system with - rather than dictated to - disabled people. I'm supporting this amendment to stop the £2bn cuts. #WelfareBill

🚨The UN has written to the government about disability cuts in the UC and PIP Bill 🚨 It says it "has received credible information" indicating that the Bill will "deepen the signs of regression" on disabled people's rights in the UK. The Bill must not proceed.

if you take away £47 per week & then give back £7, that’s still a whopping loss of income UC rates must be protected. Call it health element, call it limited capacity, but cutting this money will do major harm It’s not a ‘perverse incentive’ It means someone is very ill.

I am going into Parliament to vote against any cuts to disability benefits. No Labour government should be imposing benefit cuts forcing many more disabled people into poverty.

As government spending grows so do tax revenues. There is generally no need to argue about who is to pay more tax before spending takes place. Tax is part of a set of fiscal tools available to address inflation and inequality. It is a completely separate discussion.

Tonight, I voted against plans to cut £2 billion in support for hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled people. Stripping £3,000 a year from people who are too ill to work and already on low incomes will only deepen the poverty many face.

Today, I voted against the government’s disgraceful cuts to disability support. Moments before, I joined disability rights campaigners outside Parliament to say: this isn’t over. We will not give up until we have built a society that cares for each other, and cares for all!

The bill is not welfare reform. It is a cut, and it is the creation of a two-tier welfare system. I voted against that tonight.

333 labour MPs just voted for a bill that will cut £2bn from the welfare state. Only 47 Labour MPs voted against. These were the 47⬇️

I had no choice but to again vote against the Government's Universal Credit & Personal Independence Payments Bill. My amendment to safeguard against fluctuating conditions was lost. I'll continue to work with Deaf & Disabled People’s Organisations on this legislation & the review
