No January anti-meat and dairy agenda in this house. This steak was 28 day matured, locally produced and wonderfully tasty. This country needs farmers far more than we realise. 2025 will be the year! #food #farming #community #localeconomy #landscapes #nature

An enjoyable night with FarmerNetwork talking to Penton Farmers Group. We talked auctioneering, rugby and Network stuff then top quality pie & pea supper at Skitby House. #farming #food #nature #environment #community #wellbeing

I write a monthly blog for the Cumbria Farmer publication. I try to keep it light-hearted but sometimes there is a need to have a little rant. This was published in September 2024. #farming #food #nature #community #economy lakesauctioneer.co.uk/2025/01/07/let…

Matty, I’ve been explaining this scenario for the last three years, in every partnership and stakeholder group. Farming, nature, the local economy and our rural communities are under huge threat. Thanks for this cast-iron example.

This just is not good enough. I talk to many farmers on whom this is having an impact, financially and on their wellbeing. #farming #localeconomy #community #wellbeing

A sea of plastic surrounding Agadir, Morocco. I took this photo last week. UK food imports rising every year, but the country is in drought, Argan oil price gone thro roof, orchards dying, river beds run dry Yet we're taking swathes of our land out of food prod. Madness, why?

I keep hearing that dreaded word “offsetting” with regard to housing and industrial development We cannot go on re-purposing farm land away from food production to assuage industrial carbon footprints. It makes no sense… #food #farming #nature #greenwashing #offsetting

Farming, food and nature - in balance, supporting a local economy and the rural community with FarmerNetwork FiPL has been an excellent scheme across the North and i would hope that it might continue in future! Forlorn hope perhaps......

Morale is at an all-time low among many farmers in Cumbria, particularly in the hills. Good livestock prices don't mitigate the growing desperation. It feels like an industry and its communities are being swept away under a wave of net-zero and nature narcissism. I am so worried

"Net Zero and Nature Narcissism". The farming industry and its communities are being pulled apart at the seams I am deeply worried about the health and wellbeing of many farmers and their families particularly in the hills. More and more are asking for support Does anyone care?

IHT does not go away for farmers as this meeting in Wensleydale with FarmerNetwork shows. Then we will be talking about farm succession. Difficult conversations and no easy answers for many. #farming #food #nature #community #economy

Lab-grown food could be sold in the UK within two years. This is wrong on many levels. Italy recently banned lab grown food to protect their farmers. The UK government should be doing the same.

Farm, produce food, manage our iconic landscapes, improve natural habitats, contribute millions to the rural economy and continue to be the bedrock and social glue of our rural communities, for half of the minimum wage. Would you? #farming #food #nature #ruraleconomy #community

A proud day representing FarmerNetwork at Buckingham Palace. His Majesty the King is Patron of the Royal Countryside Fund which does so much to support several organisations like ours. Our only mission is to support farmers and their families. #farming #food #nature #community

When you're the boss of the company, the leader of the team, the senior officer on deck, you have the bridge and you take the responsibility. You don't hide behind your crew. Pray you are never in the trenches with this Farming Minister.....Wait a minute, i think we already are!

I asked my arable farming pal if the price of wheat would rise due to the strike. He said "no chance" as 3 grain merchants had imported 3M tonnes since Sept, some of very dubious quality. Is this why the Minister expressed supply chain confidence in yesterdays EFRA Committee ?
