HBO's 'Ren Faire' follows the battle to succeed the geriatric ruler of one of the world’s largest renaissance festivals. Patrick Marlborough unpicks a tapestry of delusion and fantasy to reveal the docuseries' dreamlike meditation on ego, honour and greed: satpa.pe/f7fhhey

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who made our #staffpicks screening at vidiot in LA unforgettable! 🎬 Hosting filmmakers like Lance Oppenheim, Laurel Parmet, and others was an honor. It's *always* a highlight to connect with our vibrant community. 🥂 📸 : Ryan Mekenian

Inevitable but still depressing to think of the loss of Robert Towne, Donald Sutherland, and now Shelley Duvall in a short span of time, each representing something idiosyncratic and brilliant about filmmaking of their era that we have not yet lived up to.

The director of HBO's 'Ren Faire', Lance Oppenheim, eschews the visually static realism of most modern documentary series in favour of something that feels akin to Kubrick’s 'Barry Lyndon' or Paul Thomas Anderson’s 'There Will Be Blood'. satpa.pe/JQdo8rx

Lance Oppenheim's REN FAIRE is the best thing I've seen so far this year. Like AMERICAN MOVIE and GATES OF HEAVEN, it really immerses us into a distinct, real world with unmistakable personalities. Plus, Ari Balouzian's original score is a knockout. This is another win for ELARA.

I scored a film about python hunting in the Everglades and it’s premiering at SXSW this year. Thanks to the director Xander Robin for tapping me for this wild ride. #floridacore schedule.sxsw.com/2025/films/220…
