Nothing like new equipment! The Louisiana Freshwater Sponge Project is now NSF funded! This $860,815, 5-year grant, will prepare many community colleges students, like Sydney, with valuable workforce skills with Freshwater sponge research at the center! laspongehunters.com

There has been a terrible drought in Louisiana. That, coupled with this lake's drawdown, has left this area unrecognizable. We will continue to survey the sponge population and hope the water will return.

The sponge community has lost a wonderful researcher and friend. I am sad to report the passing of Dr. Michael Poirrier. He had such an influence on my research. I'm so thankful to have had him as a mentor the past 4 years. greenwoodfh.com/tributes/Micha…
