It was an exciting day in #StudentCouncil! We worked on the yearbook, helped get the compost buckets ready, emailed families about our next #DoorstepDonations collection for City Harvest and designed our #FieldDay shirts in #Keynote

We used Makey Makey to create our own “Is It Conductive?” testing station and used a Scratch Team game to help us identify which objects are conductive & which are not. We discovered Play-Doh, oranges, nails, paper clips & humans are conductive! #PYP

Always so inspired listening to @kjinquiry! Listened to her #ToddleTIES talk & can’t wait to discuss how we can incorporate more opportunities for personal #inquiry with my colleagues. Walking away with a lot to think about & so many ideas!

Grade 4/5 walked around the neighborhood & Fulton Center to explore how #technology & #innovation transform our daily lives, in big & small ways. We also stopped by the Art on the Ave Artist-in-Residence studio. Ss documented the experience on #iPhone & will reflect tomorrow

Our #Mandarin students even got to practice their language skills with one of the Art on the Ave Artists-in-Residence who spoke Chinese! #CityAsSchool

Sorting out our observations of technology from our field trip. We used a spectrum sort, deciding what we considered needs, like fire alarms & what were wants, like OMNY tap & go to enter the subways. Some debate whether elevators & automatic doors were needs or wants 🤔 #pyp

We are beginning our #AppDesign journey with some exploration into the apps we use & the problems they solve. We also discussed some of the challenges we face & how an app could solve them. Next step: narrowing in on a challenge we want to #inquire into more deeply!

Grade 4 & 5 students engaged in a spectrum sort, organizing photos of different items from oldest to newest. Then we compared, debated & discussed how things like communication, phones, mail, shopping & computers have been disrupted by technology & innovation. #inquiry #PYP

Our Compost Crew created a video using #AppleEDU #Clips to inform families about what to do with food waste on International Night. We are wondering how much food waste we’ll collect 🤔 #inquiry #PYPx

Spanish & Mandarin students are analyzing the effectiveness of different language apps & exploring how they might change the way humans learn new languages. Next step is to practice writing App Store reviews in Spanish or Mandarin!
