How do we ensure that older adults with serious illness get best-quality care in MA plans? Lauren Hunt & my thoughts on fascinating research by Joan M Teno MD, MS et al in JAGS, and the need for more data on quality of care in MA #hpm #hapc agsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11âŚ

Even in the few brief interactions I've been lucky enough to have with J Randall Curtis, his caring for others and commitment to developing the next generation of #palliativecare researchers was so obviously apparent. Very moving podcast.

And really the biggest take away from this article is listen to @mclemoremr. She's been saying this for years! Short cut: just read all her awesome t-shirts during zoom calls. No but seriously, read all her academic and public scholarship. & Rhea Boyd MD, MPH. & Rachel R. Hardeman, PhD, MPH #CiteBlackWomen

Also shout out to Faith Fletcher, PhD, MA for putting that article in conversation with this one. These are very much structural problems and we need to really carefully examine the proposed solutions. statnews.com/2021/06/10/nihâŚ

And more troublesome features of Aducanumab by Rita Redberg 3) Biogen and FDA worked together on post-hoc analysis to explain why one of the studies showed small benefit and another didnt. And importantly, 3 years later and FDA approval, still no published Phase III study! 3/3

If people canât go to work because they canât get child care, and small businesses have to shut down because they canât find the employees they need, all of a sudden weâre in a downward spiral. We canât build a 21st-century economy without quality, affordable child care.

Almost half (half!!!) of hospice enrollees have dementia. Super duper important article I had the pleasure to work on with Melissa Aldridge Amy Kelley @MSHSGeriPalCare Impact of Comorbid Dementia on Patterns of Hospice Use | Journal of Palliative Medicine liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/jpâŚ

Love this from New Scientist

For Medicare to cover hospice, patients need a 6-month prognosis. I wrote about how that rule disadvantages people with dementia for The Washington Post. (1/8) washingtonpost.com/health/2022/03âŚ

Thank you Emily Harris for writing about this important issue in The Washington Post. Patients with dementia and their families deserve better #hospice care at end of life.
