Of course it would cost less to house people than to maintain & police poverty. We know this, the state knows this. But deliberate impoverishment and criminalization of poverty serves a broader strategy of precarity & disposession in racial capitalism and settler colonialism.

I’ve said this before but the primary thing in my opinion that people misunderstand about nonviolent movements of the past is that they were only successful because of their ability to cause economic disruption. You can’t have a social justice movement that protects capitalism.

I'm not shocked. I'm not horrified. I'm angry. I'm angry it takes scientific methods to "prove" what survivors have known FOR DECADES. I'm angry that is has taken this long for communities to get the support they need. And I'm determined to do whatever I can to help.

Some of us think teaching math through an anti-racist/pro-justice lens means layering content with projects when it’s *also* in our day-to-day interactions with students and how we dismantle terms like “math people” and the prevalence of Greco-Roman centering of our math systems.

here's the deal – as a teacher, of course you deserve to rest this summer AND as a white teacher, part of your summer must also be spent continuing to develop your consciousness: - reading/watching/listening - learning in commmunity - giving $$$ - showing up

While we are talking about Residential Schools, in a historic heat wave—many unhoused people are survivors of those institutions, or descendants of survivors. In Canada urban Indigenous people are 8x more likely to experience homelessness. thewalrus.ca/scenes-from-ca…

As a designer who consults with museums on gender inclusive practice, I am often asked about signage and icons. Here are some of my top recs for easy swaps you can make for a more gender inclusive visitor experience:

Cis supremacy always leads to white supremacy because cis supremacy is rooted in colonial ideas about gender, ideas that were never built to include black people or black cultures. You can’t be anti-racist and transphobic, because transphobia always leads to racism.

The ability to articulate one’s experience in language that is both understandable & acceptable (within the culture one is speaking to) is highly contingent on class, ability, & access. There are many folks who share your values but cannot preform acceptability bc of this.

In the middle of a climate emergency, as highways & roads are being washed away & entire communities are being flooded and evacuated, the Province has chosen to send busloads of police to criminalize Wet'suwet'en water protectors and to work as a mercenary force for oil and gas.
