Levels is super interesting as he is _the_ late stage capitalist developer. It’s really cool he makes bank being extremely prolific. At the same time, he’s so dialled into ā€˜make money’ that any advice he gives on ā€˜build great software’ has to be taken in that context.

Almost 12 years after starting uni, today I've paid off my student loan. In classic SLC fashion the guy on the phone copied the amount I owed minus the first figure, leading to a fix-up payment that triggered a barrage of Monzo security checks. Done now though, chapter closed.

Most of the cloud tech we use now appeared in the last decade. I wonder how much operational burden came from the majority of engineers having to learn totally these tools from scratch vs inherent complexity? New companies don’t seem to be re-creating the large ops team…

I wonder (and hope) if AI will discourage the creation of tool specific languages/DSLs? I love Loki as a logging tool but LogQL is so poorly documented that models don’t really understand it. Big advantage if future tools can reuse existing standards.
