Last spring I gave a workshop on Data Cleaning for Data Sharing Using R where we learned how to assess the quality of a dataset and apply a standardized checklist of cleaning steps in #rstats. The slides and exercise materials are here if interested! cghlewis.github.io/ncme-data-clea…

Recently learned that my application to become a permanent resident of Canada has been approved!!!! I'll save the celebrations until after the government processes my virtual landing, but I'm super stoked that everything has changed from "if" to "when". 🥳🇨🇦

A media feature about my work went semi-viral on the wrong side of Facebook and now I have some new incredible content from some internet haters. 😂😂😂 this totally beats the guy that accused me of dropping out of my PhD to ride horses!

I will die on this one: pay is the single largest gatekeeper we have in academia. This crap isn’t viable. It’s hurting people, and limiting the pool of talented folks that think it’s a good idea to do science or have the resources to do so.

People keep saying “We survived him before and it’s no different now”, but it is different. Last time, when the hate speech and personal attacks started, students went to cultural and LGBTQIA+ centers and DEI offices to get support. But many of these places have been shut down.

My mental health is not in a good place right now. But I did what I could for my students by extending their exams and encouraging them to take care of themselves 💞 This email gave me a little hope back that our small efforts can still help
