A breakthrough for the next American Legion World Series champions in our countdown: 1948: Trenton (N.J.) Post 93 INDIANAPOLIS: After 3 previous runner-up finishes, the Trenton program broke through, winning the ALWS with a 4-1 win over Jacksonville, Fla. #LegionBaseball100

The 1949 ALWS brought our 1st Player of the Year: 1949: Oakland (Calif.) Post 337 OMAHA: Led by the 1st American Legion Player of the Year, Ray Herrera, & batting champ J.W. Porter (.551 in tournament play), Oakland won the ALWS with an 8-6 win over Cincinnati. #LegionBaseball100
